This Privacy Notice explains how I collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in the course of my counselling and psychotherapy practice.
Who I am
Stephanie J. Delaney. Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MIACP). I am the data controller for the personal data you provide.
What information I collect
If you become a client: At the beginning of therapy, you will be asked to complete an intake form including Name, Address, Phone number, Email address, GP or emergency contact details. I also keep brief, anonymised handwritten notes of sessions.
If you make an enquiry
If you contact me by email, phone, or through the website, I may hold your name, contact details, and the content of your enquiry.
Why I collect your information
Your information is used to provide counselling and psychotherapy services, arrange sessions, maintain clinical records, and ensure safe practice.
How your information is stored
Records are stored securely in locked filing cabinets or password-protected devices. Online sessions use secure platforms. I do not keep detailed electronic notes of therapy sessions.
Confidentiality
All information shared in therapy is confidential and not shared with third parties without consent, except where there is a legal obligation or risk of serious harm.
How long is your information kept
- Client records are retained for 10 years after therapy ends.
- Records are securely destroyed thereafter.
- Enquiry data is kept for up to 3 months.
Your rights
Under data protection law, you have the right to access, correct, copy, delete (where possible), or transfer your personal data by contacting me via email.
Data breaches
In the event of a data breach, appropriate steps will be taken to contain the situation, and relevant parties including the Data Protection Commission will be notified.
